How Can I
Use It?
Customers simply call the Traffic Assist local number
and use a touch tone phone to interact with the TA computer. The computer
voice asks for trip origination and destination. The current method of
inputting trip origination and destination is using a special map provided
by TA that includes over 4,000 locations identified by number and recognized
by the TA computer. Alternatively, callers can choose to enter locations
by spelling the name of a designated Point of Interest or by spelling
the name of the city they are in and the name/number of the freeway they
are on. Once this information is obtained, the TA computer takes 2/10
of a second to calculate all possible routes to determine LTR. The TA
computer then recites the LTR as well as estimated time and distance for
the driver. The computer will also ask for a callback number (or capture
Caller ID) so that it can call the customer back during the trip if conditions
such that a new revised route will save time versus the original route.
Also, if the driver forgets the directions s/he simply calls the TA number
and keys in their call back number (this will be automatic with Caller
ID) and the TA computer recalculates a new LTR for the remainder of that
trip and then recites the updated LTR complete with remaining time and
distance.
